Joshua Ferrell is a versatile and accomplished musician, recently finishing the recording and touring music of Dallas-based pianist Aakash Sridhar, featuring a modern jazz album of original compositions. Recently, Joshua has collaborated in conjunction with the Arizona Philharmonic with the percussion trio, Manos Percussion He also collaborates with the University of North Texas as a Virtual Teaching Artist, offering masterclasses and private lessons to students at underfunded campuses. Joshua is set to perform at the annual Denton Arts and Jazz Festival alongside vibraphonist Patrick Overturf. Additionally he will return for his third consecutive year as a featured artist at the Texas State Fair.
A recent graduate of the University of North Texas (UNT) Master’s program, Joshua served as director of the Five and Seven O’Clock Lab Bands and performed with the Two O’Clock Lab Band. He completed his Bachelor’s degree at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) in 2022, where he was the Teaching Assistant for the Jazz Lab Band under Brian Fincher. Joshua has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Idyllwild Arts Summer Orchestra and the Hot Springs Summer Chamber Orchestra.
Joshua has toured across the U.S. with the DownBeat award-winning Jazz Singers, the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band, and UNT’s premier trombone ensemble, the U-Tubes. His recordings include the SHSU Wind Ensemble’s 2020 album and the SHSU Jazz Ensemble’s 2021 album, Upside Downside. Joshua has received over $36,000 in scholarships, including the prestigious Fisher Tull Scholarship, and will be featured at the Jazz Education Network Conference in January 2025.
Currently, he remains an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, and Percussive Arts Society. Based in Denton, TX, Joshua continues to perform, compose, teach, and inspire as a local artist.
