Randy McGill and Eclectic is a genre-blending powerhouse based in Dallas, Texas, known for fusing jazz, soul, funk, gospel, and fusion into a sound that’s as refined as it is fearless. Founded in 2018 by multi-instrumentalist and musical director Randy McGill (Ginuwine), the band quickly became a mainstay in the Dallas music scene, earning the 2020 Dallas Observer Music Award for Best Jazz Band and gaining acclaim for both their musicality and community impact.
The group features a lineup of elite musicians with impressive résumés:
-
Davante Thornton (Lead Vocals), a dynamic solo artist whose projects Smooth Silky Soul and Luh and Circumstance have marked him as one of DFW’s most compelling voices.
-
Tony “Katt” Reed (Drums), a driving force behind live sets for Ginuwine, Chosen Vessel Church, and Lighthouse.
-
Gabe Wright (Bass), known for his deep groove and precision, also anchors rhythm sections at Chosen Vessel Church and Lighthouse.
-
Reggie “T-Bone” Terrell (Trombone), a brass master who leads Reggie T and the Boneheads, is a member of Dos Negros, and frequently collaborates with major local and national acts.
-
Kazu Tanaka (Trumpet), an alumnus of the acclaimed UNT One O’Clock Lab Band, with credits that include RC & The Gritz and numerous national performances.
-
Stephen Harper (Guitar), a fluid jazz stylist who leads his own trio and has played with legends like Yarbrough and Peoples.
-
Cleon Edwards (Drums), an in-demand touring drummer with credits including Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, and many other major artists.
-
Christian Bennett (Saxophone/Aux Keys), who has graced stages with Macy Gray, Ginuwine, and a long list of respected artists.
Together, this collective brings unmatched chemistry and a spirit of experimentation that sets them apart. Their long-running Touch the Stage Tuesdays residency at The Freeman Cajun Cafe became one of the most successful jam sessions in recent DFW history, helping spotlight local talent and draw collaborations with artists like Shaun Martin, Caleb Sean McCampbell, Miracle Foster, and Wes Stephenson.
They’ve performed at premier venues and festivals including AT&T Performing Arts Center, The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, Deep Ellum Arts Festival, and AT&T Stadium. In 2019, they launched EclecticFest, a self-produced music festival that continues to grow in scale and impact. Their latest single “Wakusa,” featuring trumpet virtuoso Aaron Janik, further cements their forward-thinking approach to contemporary jazz and fusion.
Randy McGill and Eclectic currently holds a residency at the iconic Sandaga 813 every first Thursday of the month—continuing their mission to push boundaries, celebrate culture, and create an unforgettable live experience.
